Statistics

Transfer Students

For information about transferring to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) as well as FAQs please visit CLAS Transfer Center.

The Department of Statistics offers two majors to transfer students:

  • Statistics B.A. – Geared towards students pursuing a career in statistics and data analytics after graduation.
  • Statistics B.S. – Geared towards students planning to pursue graduate studies and hence is more rigorous in advanced mathematics.

Remarks

  • Students are encouraged to explore the departmental page to familiarize themselves with the program, various opportunities, and student activities.
  • Optimal program course flow charts are available for Statistics B.A. and Statistics B.S., (as well as Data Science B.S.)
  • The Data Science B.S. is not currently available to transfer students due to the rigorous scheduling requirements.  However, students may pursue the Statistics B.A. – which is the most flexible – and customize it with an emphasis in data science, or, once they meet Data Science B.S. critical tracking criteria switch major.  Note that changing majors is prohibited for transfer students with this exception only.

Registering for courses

A top priority is registering for courses in order to complete the program and degree in a timely manner.  Registration information is provided in CLAS Transfer FAQ page.

Common issues:

  • Transfer courses have yet to be entered/transferred to UF.
  • A transfer course may have been entered as a generic transfer course, e.g. STA T000, STA L000, STA U000.

These issues may prevent you from registering for certain courses, if the system cannot identify whether a course prerequisite has been met.  For example STA 4321 will be looking for the prerequisite MAC 2313.

Solution: (Include UFID in all communication)

  1. Contact the departmental advisor of the department that corresponds to the transfer course for evaluation.  For example, if evaluating a mathematics course, contact the Department of Mathematics Undergraduate Advisor.
  2. Forward the evaluation(s) to the departmental advisor of the department of the course you wish to register for to request to be added, or to have the prerequisites waived.
