Enroll in these courses to earn academic credit while gaining experience.

Individual Work STA 4905
Special topics designed to meet individual student interests. (Click to learn more)

Work directly with a Department of Statistics faculty member on a specialized topic or project. Students are responsible for identifying and securing a supervising faculty member prior to registration.

Note: Credits earned in this course do not count toward any Department of Statistics major, minor, or certificate requirements.

Prerequisites: Department permission (typically Statistics majors/minors in good academic standing).

Credits: 1–5 Credits (Letter Grade). Expect roughly 3 hours/week of work per credit.

Deliverables: Formal project proposal, regular progress updates, final written report, and a final presentation.

Undergraduate Research STA 4911

Arrange to work directly with a faculty member or graduate student supervisor, or apply for posted term projects. Students are responsible for identifying and securing a supervising faculty member prior to registration.

Prerequisites: Familiarity with coding in Python and/or R.

Credits: Variable 0–3 (Expect roughly 3 hours/week of work per credit).

Deliverables: Project proposal, regular progress updates, final written report/manuscript, and a final presentation.

Synthesize methods and skills acquired in statistics and data science courses by working on a high-impact project provided by a partnering institution.

Prerequisites: STA 4210 & 3 additional credits in STA 4XXX.
