Undergraduate Study Abroad Opportunity, Summer 2024

UF in England – Perspectives on the History of Statistics

Dates:  Spring Short-Term:  May 4-12, 2024 (Tentative)

Program:
How did the daughter of a notorious English poet come to write what may be
the first computer program? How did a nurse during the Crimean War convince the English Parliament to clean up the sanitary conditions in field hospitals? How did an afternoon tea party inspire a young statistician at an agricultural research station to codify the design of experiments? Finally, how did the work of codebreakers in a secret location shorten WW2? This program introduces students to the fascinating people who contributed to the historical beginnings of the fields of statistics and computing in England.

Locations:
This program takes place in two locations that are critical to the history
of statistics: London and Cambridge.

Eligibility Requirements:

— Minimum 3.0 GPA
— Must be in good standing
— Students should be in a STEM-related field; preference will be given to
Statistics & Data Science majors

Course Information:

STA 4956/IDS 4956: Overseas Studies in Statistics
Total Number of Credits Offered: 3 UF GPA Credits

2024 PRICING

Undergraduate Program Fee: $3903

Graduate Program Fee: $4151

A $395 nonrefundable deposit toward the total cost of the program is due at the time of application. The remaining fees are due no later than 45 days prior to departure. If you receive financial aid, you can defer payment until it disburses. Deferment decisions will be based on the amount of aid to be received.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

Tuition for 3 credits, housing, program excursions, international health insurance, and emergency medical assistance.

WHAT’S NOT INCLUDED

Round-trip airfare, meals, and additional personal travel and expenses.
